COURSE DESCRIPTION

HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT is structured into two months course of study that helps students to learn how to recognise, control, and regulate safety hazards in the workplace, school and home. The course is divided into four weeks each with specific and progressive study for each week in the first and the second months. Students would be expected to take an examination at the end of the study. As a result, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) is provided at the end of the first and second four weeks (week 1-4 and 5-8) for students’ assessment. It is imperative to ascertain that students have thoroughly study their materials, carry out extra researches and are equipped with the required knowledge in skill health and safety management.

Note: Endeavor to take the first MCQ after the first 4 weeks of the course before proceeding to week 5-8 course work.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The study covers a number of topics that are carefully selected to equip the students for their career endeavours in leadership and management in health services. It is sub-divided into eight weeks with week 1-4 in the first month and week 5-8 for the second month. Therefore, the week one to four covers foundations in health and safety; the scope, duties and offences of employers, managers, employees and others; role and functions of external agencies; key elements of a health and safety management system; while week five to eight covers the policy for health and safety; organisational health and safety roles and responsibilities of employers, directors, managers and supervisors and human factors which influence behaviour at work and training, facilities and assistance.

COURSE AIM

The aim of this course is to enlighten students on the principles and standards of health and safety management in school, home and work environment. The topics includes: foundations in health and safety; the scope, duties and offences of employers, managers, employees and others; role and functions of external agencies; key elements of a health and safety management system; the policy for health and safety; organisational health and safety roles and responsibilities of employers, directors, managers and supervisors; human factors which influence behaviour at work and training, facilities and assistance.
